Enjoy the Ride in Lake County to beautiful fall scenery and activities

The fall weather has arrived and the leaves have changed colors. With over 25,000 lush forest preserves, as long as the weather stays nice, many residents will be seen enjoying the trails and taking in the beautiful fall scenery. This is also one my favorite times of the year, as there is so much going on, for festivals to haunted houses, fright fest and more.

This is the 21st season of Six Flags Fright Fest, and it returns with several classics including the show “Love at first Fright,” Susan Rosen, the world-renowned hypnotist, the haunted City of the dead, Necropolis, haunted house Mausoleum of Terror and scare free areas including the Character Candy Trail. One thing to remember if you are attending this year is that Fright Fest opens later, to scare later. Hours are Friday 5pm – 11pm, Saturday 11am – 11pm, and Sunday from 11am – 9pm.

Richardson Adventure Farm is another good place to enjoy the fall season. There are five mazes that make up the World’s Largest Corn Maze, which the theme for this year’s maze is “Salute to Our Military”. There is also a ticket special, where everyone with a military ID will receive a 50% discount on their general admission ticket. Their remote corn maze features the Round Lake Area Park District. Also, returning this year is their ZORB ride, which you roll down a hill in a big ball. You can also Zipline, an area for campfires, a pumpkin patch and much more. You can also stop out later in the year and find you perfect Christmas tree.

We are also fortunate to have many outstanding Haunted Houses, which include Dungeon of Doom and Realm of Terror. The Dungeon of Doom Haunted House in Zion has 2 floors with over 80 of the best and scariest actors. Kristof’s Realm of Terror Haunted House in Round Lake Beach is the most extreme Haunted House. Both will have you scared and jumping out of your skin!

There is a lot of exciting activities happening in our county and I hope each and every one of you experience one of our many events this month. I look forward to seeing you enjoying the ride through Lake County!
