Free Throw Competition at the Libertyville Sports Complex

I recently participated in the 1st ever Libertyville Sports Complex Free Throw competition. The Libertyville Sports Complex is located at corner of Peterson Rd and US Hwy 45. The competition costs $5 for 10 Free Throws (plus 2 practice shots), and runs through the week of March 6. There are different age divisions for men and women. The top 5 scorers in each division will advance to the championship round on March 20. I am told they will have bleachers set up so your family and friends can come watch and cheer you on.

I remember when I was little I would shoot free throws and play basketball in the driveway until it got dark and my parents told me to come in; so I thought I would do ok at this. Now, I have not played basketball or shot a basketball in about a year so there was a little rust. A free throw is something that everyone can do, so I was not worried about it, I just did not want to shoot air balls, as that would be embarrassing. I set my goals pretty low, as I was hoping to hit 50% of them, but knowing that I could do a lot better than that. Once I shook off the rust and found my rhythm it was pretty easy.

The Libertyville Sports Complex has a lot of things for visitors and area residents, like a rock climbing wall, a heated driving range, fitness center, soccer fields, batting cages and more. I will be stopping back out at the Sports Complex to check out the fitness center and the driving range to get ready for the golf season. On this day though, I only did the Free Throw Challenge. What a great concept I might add, as the College Basketball Tournament will be starting shortly, which is one of my favorite times of the year.
